Mumbai witnessed its first rainfall this season, that was accompanied by heavy dust storms and strong winds at a speed of 40-50 kmph on Monday. Intense rainfall and dust storms in multiple parts, including Mumbai airport reduced visibility, suspending flight operations until further notice.
The city’s Goregaon, Ghatkopar, Bandra Kurla, Dharavi also witnessed heavy downpours. In addition, the sudden shift in weather patterns disrupted transportation, also bringing traffic to a standstill.
The weather office predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and moderate to heavy spells of rain along with strong winds of 50-60 km per hour to continue for the next few hours in the districts of Palghar and Thane. Intense rainfall and gusty winds also caused many trees to get uprooted. However, none of the individuals were reported injured.
The Delhi-NCR region witnessed massive rainfall accompanied by strong dust storm on May 10. At least two people died and 17 injured due to uprooting of trees. Inclement weather condition also damaged buildings in parts of the national capital, the Delhi Police informed.
